Mt. Gongka is situated on the eastern edge of the Tibetan Plateau, Minyag Gangkar (literally means Minyak Snow White) with an elevation of 24,790 ft or 7556 is Asia’s highest summit east of the Himalayas and the highest peak of the Minyak Rabgang range (ch Daxue).

Which covers an area of 290 square kilometers, with more than 20 peaks over 6.000 meters and some 45 glaciers. In summer the mountain is shrouded in clouds. The air temperature sometimes falls to -20, and most of the annual precipitation (800-900 millimeters) occurs between July and September.

The precipitous granite ridges of the mountain’s northeast, southwest, and southeast faces have attracted mountaineering expeditions since 1878. For Tibetans, it is the sacred abode of both Chenrezik and the Tantric deity Demchok. Along with Kailash, Amnye Machen, and Khawa Karpo, it is one of the holiest mountains in Tibet, and embarking on a pilgrimage is a lifetime dream for many Tibetans.

It is The Minyag are a distinct linguistic and cultural sub-group within the Tibetan nationality. They are similar to other Tibetans in that they follow the tenets of Tibetan Buddhism, and live in dispersed agricultural communities growing barley and raising yaks. The trekking package tour offers a great experience of Minyag Tibetan culture and intensive natural beauties in the shadow of Mt. Gangkar(7668m).

Tour Plan

All the group members gathered in Chengdu, and have an opportunity to relax, unwind and alleviate the effects of jetlag. In the next day we will visit the famous Giant Panda Breeding Center where you will impress by the cute red pandas and giant pandas actively eating bamboos, in the afternoon, you may interested to visit the Jinli street where you can find lots of Sichun folk handcrafts and all the buildings along the streets are build in traditional Chinese architecture. Late afternoon prepare for the overland drive to Kangding.
Rested and ready for an adventure, the group will set out across the rice-growing plains west of Chengdu and ascend picturesque foothills to the small city of Dartsedo (2,616m). Once an important trade center that served as a buffer zone between China and Tibet, Dartsedo, now known as Kangding, still marks the edge of the Tibetan frontier. This bustling crossroad-city will offer us our first glimpse of a traditional Tibetan community and act as a welcome respite for the Tibet plateau. After a stroll through the markets and a good night’s sleep we will ascend further into the mountains, we will drive to Tagong, where the Pha Lhakang monastery is one of the most spiritual destination of Tibetan pilgrims with its mystical Buddha image, visit the monastery and enjoy the beautiful Tagong grassland, then later in the afternoon drive to Dora Village in Ponposhi Township of Minyak. There you will have an authentic Tibetan family experience by staying at a local family house. Then drive further deep into the valley to Mt.Gangka interim camp Yoloshi, you will have an opportunity to visit some of the Tibet’s oldest homes (~900 years) en route that offers glimpse of ancient living before heading to Yoloshi for a night of rest.
Yoloshi is first base camp of Gangkar Mountain(7668m) and it is a small nomadic village from where we meet with our trekking supporter horses and horseman. The typical plateau nomad town offers beautiful mountain views. You can take moderate to strenuous treks up to 7 days. However, this particular itinerary designed for moderate trekkers with 4-5 hour day for 4 straight days through Lunchenma Pass (4560m) and Gangkar Monastery, outstanding mountain views from the ridge of Tseme la pass (4550m) and photogenic villages, along the forbidden track you will enjoy endless wonders. Trekking route offers best views of Mt. Gongkar from different angles and perspectives and then finally circuit complete at Yoloshi.
We will drive back to Kangding via Dora Village, and then we will end our trip in Chengdu after a night of rest in Kangding. On your departure, our staff will deliver you to the airport per your flight schedule and leave for your next destination.

We are 3 people that will travel from Chengdu to Lahsa by train, arriving around August 5th. We want to take 4 days tour in Lhasa.  We need to know how to book the tour with you, the price, how to pay it and what are the documents we need to go there. We will get our tourist visa to visit China after we book the tour. Two of us will travel form Chile in South America and our son -also chilean- will do it form South Africa. Stay tuned to reply

Hi, I am interested in this tour. But I cannot exert myself much and was wondering if I can skip the Kailash Kora and use other forms of transportation. I do however want to see Mt. Kailash. Also are you able to provide oxygen?
