Tibet Travel Tips by Local Tibetan Tour Company – Explore Tibet
Over the centuries, Tibet undoubtedly developed a unique travel destination in Asia. Roof of the world, bastion of Mahayana Buddhism and custodian of a sophisticated literary heritage which proudly rivals those of India and China, the land – locked Tibetan plateau is as vast as Western Europe yet sparsely populated.
Modern Tibet has many attractions for visitors, beautiful lakes and giant snow mountains, lovely people and rich ancient cultures, so Tibet travel is one of the top travel destination in the world, but due to its special travel restriction on foreign travelers. Honestly speaking, the Tibet travel permit and visa formalities are not that complicated, but most of the travelers are confused with various hazy informations on the internet and Tibet travel forums.
so here Explore Tibet has provided few important Tibet travel tips to make your Tibet travel easy and worry free.
1. A valid passport including a standard Chinese entry visa is essential, such visas are generally obtainable from most Chinese embassies and consulates, sometimes on sight of flight tickets and travelers’s cheques. Sometimes Chinese Embassy and Consulate may ask to show your return international flight tickets. The cost of a standard Chinese tourist visa varies from USD12 – 120 according to the nationality of the applicant and the type of visa required. Individual Chinese visas may be issued for single or double entry, with a validity of one, two, or three months.
(Note: don’t mention Tibet as your travel destination on your visa application form as Tibet is political sensitive and sometimes may reject the visa if you mention it).
2. Tibet travel permit is the most compulsory paper work that all the foreign travelers should have when travel into Tibet, so to obtain the Tibet travel permit, travelers should organize the Tibet tour with a local Tibetan tour company, then once the Tibet tour is confirmed, the tour operator will apply for the Tibet travel permit with a copy of passport and Chinese visa, so our best advise is to plan the tour in advance, at least 20 days before your tour start, so that gives enough time to process the Tibet permit application.
