Explore Tibet Announces New Tibet Travel Permit Guidelines

Since after the new permit system was laid in May, every traveler stuck for the Tibet Travel Permit (TTP) even want to travel Tibet. However, there is a new way to travel Tibet since the Tibet Tourism Bureau and Public Security Bureau are issuing permits for those who enter Tibet from Nepal (both land and fly). Some of the tourist groups successfully got their travel permit and Explored Tibet by this way. But the previous restriction of the group size and nationalities are still in practice, i.e. at least 5 people in a group from the same nationality.

If you travel into Tibet from Nepal, then the permit regulations are little different as below,

Documentations to enter into Tibet from Nepal.

Entering Tibet via Nepal by land or air: If you plan to enter Tibet from Nepal, you must get your Tibet group visa from the Chinese embassy in Katmandu, whether you already have a Chinese visa or not, Tibet group visa is compulsory for all tourists to enter Tibet from Nepal. The Tibet Group Visa is an A4 size sheet of paper, with the name, sex, and nationality, and passport number, date of birth and occupation of each member of your group listed. The dates of entry and exit are precisely recorded. Usually, the visa is valid only for the length of the trip you have booked but it's possible to extend the visa for few additional days, but only for staying in Lhasa. There will be two original copies of the Tibet Group Visa, one for immigration at the entry and another for the exit. Explore Tibet can easily help you to obtain the Tibet Group visa through our partner agent in Katmandu. We highly recommend you to don’t apply for individual Chinese visa in your country if you decided to enter Tibet from Nepal, since when you apply for the group visa to entering Tibet, the Chinese embassy will cancel your individual Chinese visa.
