Explore Tibet Announces 20-Day Kharta Wilderness Tibet Trekking
2013-01-23

Now we offers a Tibet trekking adventure through the Kharta wilderness, located in valleys near Mt. Everest in the Himalayan range.

“A trek through the Kharta wilderness is an intense and rewarding experience,” Explore Tibet said. “This landscape is like no other on earth. Surrounded by Himalayan mountains in one of the remotest places on earth, the Kharta area is truly epic in scale and beauty.”

The Tibet tour begins in Lhasa with time for acclimatization and visits to cultural sites like the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. From Lhasa travelers will go overland to southwest Tibet towards the remote Himalayan range, pausing to take in the sights at the cities of Gyantse and Shigatse, including the famous Kumbum Stupa and the Tashilhunpo Monastery.

From here the road ascends into the mountains, crossing over several 5,000-meter plus mountain passes. From these vantage points travelers will have a panoramic view of the Himalayan mountain range, and long views down to pristine glacial lakes, considered holy by Tibetans.

The road descends into the Kharta valley where travelers will begin their trek through diverse landscapes including snowcapped peaks, fertile valleys, rocky mountains, alpine meadows and glacial lakes. The trek ends at the Khangshung Everest Base Camp, which offers dramatic close-up views of Everest, jagged Mt. Lhotse and the Khangshung glacier.
This challenging trip is best for travelers who are physically fit, acclimatized to the altitude, with prior trekking experience.

Explore Tibet is a Tibetan-run travel agency focused on responsible tourism and sustainable practice.
