Nagchu – The Land of Nomad

Nagchu prefecture, the biggest prefecture in Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR), holds 450,537 km2 in area and is divided into 11 counties. Nagchu town is the capital of this remote and vast part of Tibet. At an altitude of 4,500 m, the town thrives throughout the summers with a cool Alpine climate. Moreover, Nagchu prefecture boasts of the finest Caterpillar Fungus (Ophiocordyceps Sinensis), one of the most expensive medical fungi. The counties there have their own territorial hills of the fungus during its season.

The prefecture also includes the holy Namtso Lake, one of the three holy lakes of Tibet with Yamdrok Lake and Lake Manasarovar. Namtso Lake attracts most of the travelers coming to Tibet, at least when it’s not frozen. The lake has made all the Chinese tourists fall in love with it.
